Tell me about yourself

Almost every English job interview starts with "Tell me about yourself." Many candidates answer like a resume: where they were born, which university they went to, and every job in order. By the time they get to the present, the interviewer has stopped listening.

영어 면접은 거의 다 "Tell me about yourself."

A better structure is present, past, future. Start with what you do now: "I'm currently a data analyst at a fintech company." Then go back to one or two past experiences that explain how you got here: "Before that, I spent three years in marketing, which is where I got interested in data." Finish with the future, and connect it to the job: "Now I'm looking for a role where I can work more closely with product teams."

Keep it to about one minute, or five to seven sentences. Leave out your hobbies and family unless they connect to the job. The goal is not to tell your whole life story. It's to give the interviewer a clear reason to ask the next question.
